Panelists Ricky Defoe, Lyz Jaakola, Niib Aubid and Joseph Bauerkemper drew quite the crowd for AICHO's Treaty Rights, Climate Change, and Decolonization forum which took place on Aug. 15. Over 200 community members attended, leaving standing room only for the event. Minnesota Native News was in attendance, along with partners Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light, the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and TakeAction MN.
The forum tackled questions such as: What are treaty rights? What role do treaty rights play in resource extraction, resilience, and relationships between Native and non-Native people? How can understanding our identities as treaty people improve our relationships with one another and with the land? Miigwech to all who came to learn that we are all treaty people!
