On exhibit currently are photos by retired Wildland Fire Operations Specialist and Fond du Lac band member Vern Northrup! A substantial crowd turned out to view his photographs and learn more about the revival of a traditional prescribed fire practice in the context of modern wild land management.

The Twin Ports "WE ARE" Youth Poetry Slam Preliminary was designed to present youths ages 13 - 19 a shot at having an outstanding experience representing the state of Minnesota at the annual Brave New Voices event held in Chicago later this year. ARE itself is focused on encouraging youth voices, and defining the culture of spoken word poetry in the Twin Ports, and the event was an opportunity for youth to go before a panel of professionals and the community at large to share their voices!
Above: There was standing room only in the Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center. What an amazing turnout for these youth!
Below: Participants Sam Range and Jacqueline Wright were selected to move on to the next round!

Miigwech to Jara McLarren, AICHO Climate and Cultural Resiliency Advisory Council Member, who presented a Waste Audit Education session with the AICHO, Mending the Sacred Hoop, RICH Center, Leech Lake Urban Office staff and Gimaajii families. We collected garbage and recycle items for a week in some of the staff offices and the main lobby area and proceeded to sort through which items should have been composted or recycled and weren't. It gave us all a snapshot of how we could do better at respecting the earth - this activity will guide future efforts to strengthen our recycling and composting initiatives. Ivy, at the end, had everyone fill out an AICHO Environment Steward Commitment Statement with one thing that they were going to do better.
