Ezhi-Dibaajimomagakin Gide’inaanin: The Way Our Heart Tells Stories is an exhibition featuring two Indigenous artists, Chimakwa Nibawii Stone and Katie Lou Muzquiz. This exhibit is a profound and personal experience of one's journey, healing, and reclamation. Chimakwa Nibawii and Katie Lou Muzquiz leave nothing untouched and bare their humanity for all to see.

About the Artists |

ChimakwaNibawii StoneChimakwaNibawii Stone is celebrated for his eclectic body of work. He is an Anishinaabe artist living in Lac Courte Oreilles, Wisconsin and a Lac Du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa tribal member. His art is a captivating fusion of tradition and contemporary exploration, marked by vibrant colors and a fascination with the otherworldly, including monsters and aliens. Informed by his deep connection to Anishinaabe heritage and a love for storytelling, Stone's pieces are imbued with narratives and symbolism. His profound mastery of color evokes emotions and invites viewers on a journey through uncharted realms of imagination. A boundary-pushing figure in contemporary Indigenous art, Stone's work challenges conventions and illuminates the intersection of tradition and innovation, offering a gateway to a deeper understanding of the human experience.

Katie Lou MuzquizKatie Lou Muzquiz is an Anishinaabe contemporary visual artist living in Detroit Lakes, MN. She is a White Earth Ojibwe direct descendant. Many times in Muzquiz’s life, her health has been unpredictable and she has had numerous heart and lung surgeries over the years. Art has always been her creative outlet and place of healing. Her medium of choice is oil paints and her subjects vary from colorful dreams, interpretations from nature, self reflections, and emotions. Muzquiz wants to share her knowledge with others and introduce others to the healing aspects of Art. She is currently pursuing two Bachelors of Fine Arts degrees in Art Education with an Art Therapy minor and in Studio Art with her emphasis in painting. She has enjoyed her time volunteering teaching painting and drawing classes for youth and adults through community education. She has instructed classes for the communities of Mahnomen, Detroit Lakes, and Frazee-Perham.
